River’s Edge Rehabilitation & Living Center was the largest nursing home in Gem County during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) show.
The center offered 74 beds, surpassing the Gem County average by 17 as of the first quarter of 2026. On average, it cared for 63 residents during that timeframe.
River’s Edge Rehabilitation & Living Center earned an overall 4-out-of-5 rating from CMS, higher than Idaho’s statewide average rating of 3.2 for nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older adult population is rising while younger groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, Americans 65 and older grew by 13%, and the under-18 population declined by 1.7%. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population rapidly expanded, from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of this group—about 28 million—could need long-term services and supports. It also projects that more than one-third may ultimately require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
