Check out the programs and classes being offered for the month of July from the Nampa Parks & Recreation Department. Balance & Fall Prevention Class 

This class will help increase mobility and independence by improving lower body strength, endurance, flexibility, and bone mass, which can help reduce the risk of falling. Medical clearance required.

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem, and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age-appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. 

Clothing and Equipment

Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

Tai Chi Classes

The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form. The intermediate class continues with movements, breathing, meditation, the Yang Short form, Yang Long form, and an introduction to push hands (Tai Chi sparring).

Women’s Self-Defense & Fitness 

This class is designed for women of all ages, sizes, and athletic abilities. The class covers situational awareness, releases, proper falling and recovery techniques, effective punches, strikes, kicks, improved fitness, and basic martial arts etiquette. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. It is recommended that an adult accompanies youth 12-17 years.

Injury Screening -Provided by St. Alphonsus Physical Therapy

Stop by the weight room desk to arrange a 15-minute injury assessment or sign up for one of our ongoing times. Screenings will include recommendations for injury treatment and prevention.

Summer Mario Kart & Smash Tournament Series 

Join us this summer for one of our Mario Kart Deluxe 8 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate Nintendo Switch tournament series. Although competitive in nature, this tournament series is meant to be fun for all ages and will no doubt have many levels of skill present. Tournaments will be double elimination with pool play to determine seeding. Mario Kart will be 150cc, Smart Steering and Auto Acceleration will be turned off, and no CPUs. Super Smash Bros Ultimate will have a 7-minute time limit with 3 stocks per game.

Cabarton-North Fork 

Rafting Join the Nampa Recreation Department and Bear Valley Rafting Company for this full day rafting trip along the Payette River. Great for the whole family! Lunch will be provided on a beach along the way. Trip includes transportation, rafting and lunch.

Rappelling Class 

This class is designed for individuals who have little or no prior experience in rappelling. Rappelling is the act of descending a rope in a safe and controlled manner. These classes are held the second Friday of the month. Come learn basic rappelling principles at our 30-foot climbing wall. Participants will learn how to descend a rope with an ATC and Figure Eight while having a focus on safety. This class does not cover anchor building for outdoor rappelling. This class is a great way to develop the confidence needed to pursue additional technical skills.

This class is designed for individuals who have little or no experience in rock climbing. Come learn the basics of climbing, including movement, hand positioning, footwork, belaying, and safety.

Bob Ross Style Painting 

Have you ever wanted to paint? Do you think it is possible in just ONE day for you to walk away with a painting that anyone would be proud to display on their wall? Well, it IS, and you CAN! No previous painting experience required. All supplies included to complete a 12” x 16” painting in class. Registration due the Thursday before the class.

11th Annual Kids Triathlon 

Sponsored by Idaho Central Credit Union and Renewal by Andersen

Ready! Set! Participate! in the Nampa Rec Department’s Kids Triathlon! This fun and challenging event is for kids ages 6-13 and will include swimming, biking and running. The 3-event race not only promotes fitness but improves your child’s self-confidence as they cross the finish line on their own. A great introduction to the sport, participants will swim in Lincoln Pool, followed by a safe bike and run on roads and grounds of Lions Park. All participants will receive an event bag and all finishers will receive a t-shirt. The transition areas will be in the parking lots. We strongly encourage friends and family to come cheer on these young competitors. 

• Ages 6-7: 1 pool length (approx. 22 yd), 3/4 mile bike, 1/4 mile run 

• Ages 8-9: 2 pool lengths, 1 1/4 mile bike, 1/2 mile run 

• Ages 10-11: 4 pool lengths, 2 1/3 mile bike, 3/4 mile run 

• Ages 12-13: 6 pool lengths, 4 mile bike, 1 mile run July 15 Lincoln Pool at Lions Park

All participants must wear a helmet for the bike portion and provide their own bike. Check-in and Prerace Meetings will be held by age group and exact times will be established based on the final number of participants in each age group. However, approximate check-in times are:

8-9yr: 9:00am 

6-7yr: 9:45am 

Heats for each age group will start immediately following the pre-race meeting. 

Kids Triathlon – Training Clinic 

Get ready for the 11th Annual Kids Triathlon with a Pre-Tri clinic. Instruction will cover the basics for the swim portion of the event, as well as an overview of the biking and running portion for each age category. Bring your bike and running shoes as we review the race course during the first half of your clinic session. Splash into the pools with our certified swim staff for the second half of each day as they work on efficient glides, kicks, front crawl and turns.

Youth Tennis 101 

Youth Tennis 101 teaches the basic concepts and strokes of the game quickly and easily in a fun, family-friendly, active and encouraging group environment. Classes will take place on multiple courts with instruction provided by Columbia Head Coach Lee Haskill.

Fall Ultimate Frisbee 

Dust off your frisbees and round up your team to make some frisbee highlight reels. Frisbees will be provided for the games. Teams will play 7 on 7 games on Saturdays starting on August 5 at Liberty Park in Nampa. Each team will play 8 games followed by a single elimination tournament.

Fall Adult Men’s & Coed Softball 

Softball designed with fun in mind! The level of play is not highly competitive. Each team plays twice a week and receives ten league games. Once the regular season has concluded, each team will be placed in the appropriate division for the end of the season double elimination tournament. League starts August 7. Games held at West Park and Skyview Park.

Summer Goaltimate 

Tournament Goaltimate is a fast paced half court style Ultimate Frisbee game. Teams of 4 compete on a field approximately half the size of your typical Ultimate pitch. Teams score by tossing the frisbee to an opponent through a large half-hoop and caught in the Key (endzone). Games are two 15-minute halves with a 5 minute half time.

The Old Boise Model Railroad Club 

Hidden in downtown Boise is the Old Boise Model Railroad! The railroad depicts scenes from across the Western U.S. and various types of railroads. You will find large industries, small towns, ports, plants, lumber mills and mines. Different types of rail equipment support each of these industries: box cars, flat cars, hoppers, auto racks (rail cars for carrying automobiles), passenger cars and the modern container train. Must be able to maneuver up & down stairs.
