Today Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling received a letter of resignation from Nampa City Councilman Jacob Bower. The full statement reads:

“My family has made the difficult decision to move outside of City limits and today I announce my resignation of Nampa City Council Seat 6, effective immediately.  I have accepted a coaching position at Star Middle School and we have made a family decision for our boys and family to be closer to where they will be going to school. 

I am very proud of the direction our Council and Mayor have guided Nampa these last 4 years.  Big decisions were made, including not shutting down business during the pandemic and protecting individual freedoms during an unprecedented and obvious stressful and contentious time period.  Additionally, we made significant upgrades to the Idaho Center, the horse park and purchased our City’s golf courses from the State of Idaho.   While being a fiscal conservative, I have always made a priority to fund and support our Nampa Police Department and made sure Chief Huff and his department always had the tools to fight and lower crime.  I want to thank all the citizens who voted for me and that entrusted me with this opportunity to serve.  I kept all my campaign promises, including my pledge to not raise taxes for our citizens.  

It was a honor to serve you all.  I am going to miss all the council members, Mayor Kling, Chief of Staff Rick Hogaboom and the rest of our Nampa City Staff and department heads.   I’m going to miss working with our Police Chief, Joe Huff, Brad Daniels and the rest of our everyday heroes who wear the “Blue” to protect the City of Nampa. 

Nampa is and will always be a special place to me and I hope to be back soon.  God bless.”

Councilman Bower was elected to a four-year term in November 2019 and sworn into office January 6, 2020. In appreciation for his years of public service, Councilman Bower will be honored at the Nampa City Council meeting on Monday, June 5, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at Nampa City Hall, located at 411 3rd Street South. 

Mayor Kling said, “It has been a privilege to serve alongside Councilman Bower on Nampa City Council. We greatly appreciate the time and consideration he gave to Nampa. I wish him and his family the very best in their new home.”

The next steps regarding the seat’s vacancy will be discussed at the June 5 council meeting.
