Check out the programs and classes being offered for the month of June from the Nampa Parks & Recreation Department. Injury Screening -Provided by St. Alphonsus Physical Therapy

Stop by the weight room desk to arrange a 15-minute injury assessment or sign up for one of our ongoing times. Screenings will include recommendations for injury treatment and prevention.

Summer Splashtacular

Help us kick off the summer with water safety! We will have many swimming activity stations about safety, including lifejacket safety, “reach and throw, don’t go”, sun safety, and much more. Complete all safety stations and be entered to win a prize.

Come out to the park and enjoy the silver screen on a large inflatable movie screen.

Grab a blanket, a lawn chair, family and friends, and head to Optimist Park in

Bob Ross Style Painting 

Have you ever wanted to paint? Do you think it is possible in just ONE day for you to walk away with a painting that anyone would be proud to display on their wall? Well, it IS, and you CAN! No previous painting experience required. All supplies included to complete a 12” x 16” painting in class. Registration due the Thursday before the class.

Traditions Tang Soo Do

This class teaches self-confidence, builds self-esteem, and improves balance, while establishing discipline and courtesy towards others. Participants will learn age-appropriate self-defense and weapons training. These classes are non-violent; sparring is optional. 

Clothing and equipment: Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. No jewelry or watches during class. A mouth guard and a groin protector cup (males) are recommended.

 Tai Chi Classes

The beginning class covers the fundamentals of Tai Chi including basic movements, breathing, meditation, warm-up form and an introduction on the Yang Style Short form. The intermediate class continues with movements, breathing, meditation, the Yang Short form, Yang Long form, and an introduction to push hands (Tai Chi sparring).

Nampa Recreation Department T-ball, Baseball & Softball 

Sponsored by Toyota and Pepsi 

This recreation program is designed to promote participation, develop fundamental skills and have fun in a mildly competitive environment. Practices and games will be held at Skyview Park. All players will receive a t-shirt uniform, team hat, certificate of participation and a medal. Players must meet the minimum age requirement on or before June 5, 2023. Programs begin with daily practices (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs for T-ball) until the season starts. Once the season begins, games will be played 2-3 days a week with no further practices scheduled. Volunteer coaches are always needed!

Coed T-ball 

Children will learn basic baseball and softball skills such as throwing, catching and batting, in a fun and supportive environment. 

Ages 4-5 

Practices: June 5-June 15 (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) 

4:45pm, 5:30pm, 6:15pm or 7pm (These are for practice times only) 

Games: June 19-July 13 (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs, 2 games per week) 6pm or 7:15pm

Coed Modified T-ball 

Children will learn basic baseball and softball skills such as throwing, catching and batting, in a fun and supportive environment. Coaches will have the option to pitch an underhand pitch to the players, use a tee, or a combination of the two. 

Ages 5-6 

Practices: June 5-June 15 (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) 4:45pm, 5:30pm, 6:15pm or 7pm Games: June 19-July 13 (Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs, 2 games per week) 6pm or 7:15pm $45 (Register by May 23 to receive a $5 discount)

Girls Slow Pitch Softball (Coach Pitch) 

Participants will develop softball skills in a safe and fun environment. Coaches will pitch an underhanded ball, teaching players to hit a live ball. 

Ages 7-8, 9-11 or 12-14 

Practices: June 5-June 15 (Mon-Thurs) 4:45pm, 5:30pm, 6:15pm, 7pm, 7:45pm or 8:30pm 

Games: June 19-July 13 (2-3 games per week, some games may be played on Fridays) 5:45pm or 7:30pm

Boys Coach Pitch Baseball 

Participants will learn the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and safe environment. Coaches will throw a modified overhand pitch to help players learn to hit a live ball. Ages 7-8, 9-11 or 12-14 

Practices: June 5-June 15 (Mon-Thurs) 4:45pm, 5:30pm, 6:15pm, 7pm, 7:45pm or 8:30pm 

Games: June 19-July 13 (2-3 games per week, some games may be played on Fridays) 5:45pm or 7:30pm

Little Spikers Volleyball Camp 

Young players will learn the basics of volleyball through drills and games. Players of ALL skill levels are welcome to join. Each of the two camps will be a little different and all are welcome to attend both camps. Boys and girls entering grades 3, 4, & 5 (if not played competitively)

Dig it! Volleyball Camp 

This camp is designed for athletes with minimal volleyball experience but is diverse enough to challenge players who have participated in volleyball camps and leagues. This camp will teach basic skills and will emphasize organized volleyball. A variety of drills and games keep it fun for repeat campers. Boys and girls entering grades 5 (if played competitively), 6 & 7

Big Blocks Volleyball Camp 

This camp is designed for those ready to elevate their game and help athletes prepare for volleyball season. Players with a background in playing school and/or club volleyball will feel right at home. This camp will challenge athletes to internalize the skills needed to play at a high level, as well as how to use those skills in the ideal game situations. Players will be given specific feedback for what to improve and how to enhance their skills for the upcoming volleyball season.

Youth Tennis 101 

Youth Tennis 101 teaches the basic concepts and strokes of the game quickly and easily in a fun, family-friendly, active, and encouraging group environment. Classes will take place on multiple courts with instruction provided by Columbia Head Coach Lee Haskill.

Get Golf Ready Clinic

Get Golf Ready is an opportunity for adults to learn the game of golf in a fun and relaxed environment. The clinics will cover the basic fundamentals of golf, golf etiquette, and provide an on-course experience at the end of the class. All classes will be taught by PGA Professionals and clubs will be provided if needed.

Women’s Self-Defense & Fitness 

This class is designed for women of all ages, sizes, and athletic abilities. The class covers situational awareness, releases, proper falling and recovery techniques, effective punches, strikes, kicks, improved fitness, and basic martial arts etiquette. Students should wear loose fitting clothing, such as sweatpants and a t-shirt. It is recommended that an adult accompanies youth 12-17 years.

Lock In for Kids

Stay locked in at the Harward Rec Center all night! Kids will enjoy movies, swimming, games, and a pizza party. A male and female supervisor will be with the children all night. Children should bring sleeping bag, swimsuit, towel, and clothes to sleep in.

Rappelling Class 

This class is designed for individuals who have little or no prior experience in rappelling. Rappelling is the act of descending a rope in a safe and controlled manner. These classes are held the second Friday of the month. Come learn basic rappelling principles at our 30-foot climbing wall. Participants will learn how to descend a rope with an ATC and Figure Eight while having a focus on safety. This class does not cover anchor building for outdoor rappelling. This class is a great way to develop the confidence needed to pursue additional technical skills.

Kids Creations 

Let the kiddos tap into their inner decorator and bring them in for some cookie fun. All supplies are provided, including thick homemade frosting and tasty edibles. Each participant will take home six cookies of their own creation.

This class is designed for individuals who have little or no experience in rock climbing. Come learn the basics of climbing, including movement, hand positioning, footwork, belaying, and safety.

 Cake Decorating 

If you think that serving a showstopper cake is out of reach, then think again! Come learn some techniques the pros use to create a layered cake worth setting the table for. All supplies are provided. Participants will take home a decorated cake.

Youth Strength Training Course 

By successfully completing this 4-day course, youth ages 13 and 14 years will be granted use of the weight room including the free weights (some restrictions apply). This course will focus on safe, productive training and practical experience. Participants are required to attend the entire class and pass both a written and practical exam. Classes require preregistration at the Program Desk.

NNU Basketball Camp 

The Harward Rec Center and NNU have teamed up to bring you this three-day camp for boys and girls. Fun is emphasized, along with teaching the fundamental aspects of basketball and skill development. Participants will receive a camp t-shirt.

Adult Coed Kickball League

Relive your playground glory days with our new Adult Coed Kickball league. Teams of 10 will compete in a six-week schedule with a single elimination tournament to end the season. Teams must have a 1:1 female to male ratio.

Summer Mario Kart & Smash Tournament Series 

Join us this summer for one of our Mario Kart Deluxe 8 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate Nintendo Switch tournament series. Although competitive in nature, this tournament series is meant to be fun for all ages and will no doubt have many levels of skill present. Tournaments will be double elimination with pool play to determine seeding. Mario Kart will be 150cc, Smart Steering and Auto Acceleration will be turned off, and no CPUs. Super Smash Bros Ultimate will have a 7-minute time limit with three stocks per game.

Archery

Basic Archery: Students will learn basic technique and form using a compound bow. Equipment, safety and elements of shooting will be covered. 

Advanced Archery: Class will cover equipment, safety and advanced form and technique using a compound bow. 

Equipment is provided. Students may use their own equipment with instructor approval. Registration deadline is the Friday prior to class.
